Insemination Treatment (IUI): A First and Natural Step Towards Having a Baby
For couples who dream of having a baby but have not yet achieved results naturally, modern medicine offers promising solutions with assisted reproductive technologies. Among these methods, the most common, closest to the natural process, and the first step frequently preferred before moving on to IVF treatment is Insemination (IUI – Intrauterine Insemination).
Op. Dr. Sadık Sözdinler meticulously analyzes the causes of infertility for couples wishing to have a child in Izmir and successfully applies personalized insemination protocols that offer the highest chance of success.
What is Insemination (IUI) and How is it Performed?
Insemination is the process where the highest quality and most motile sperm, washed and prepared with special methods in a laboratory environment, are placed directly into the uterus using a thin catheter during the woman’s ovulation period. Thanks to this method, the distance the sperm need to travel is shortened, allowing a higher number of healthy sperm to reach the egg, thereby increasing the chance of fertilization.
Who is Insemination Treatment For?
Insemination treatment is preferred for women who have at least one open fallopian tube and sufficient ovarian reserve in the presence of the following conditions:
Unexplained Infertility: Failure to achieve pregnancy despite no apparent problem being found in either partner during tests.
Mild Male Factor: Mild limitations in sperm count or motility.
Cervical Problems: Conditions where cervical mucus prevents the passage of sperm.
Sexual Dysfunction: Inability to have normal intercourse due to vaginismus or ejaculation issues.
Mild Endometriosis: Cases where the disease is not in an advanced stage.
How Does the Insemination Process Work?
The treatment process usually begins on the second or third day of the expectant mother’s menstrual cycle and consists of three main stages:
Ovarian Stimulation: The ovaries are stimulated to produce one or two healthy eggs using oral pills or low-dose injections. This process is closely monitored with ultrasound.
Trigger Shot: Once the egg reaches the desired size, an injection is given to induce ovulation.
The Insemination Procedure: Approximately 36 hours after the trigger shot, the prepared sperm are introduced into the uterus. The procedure is painless, does not require anesthesia, and takes only a few minutes. The patient can return to her daily life shortly after the procedure.
Factors Increasing the Chance of Success
While success in insemination treatment varies depending on the expectant mother’s age, egg quality, and sperm condition, it yields highly promising results with proper patient selection. Op. Dr. Sadık Sözdinler aims to maximize the chance of pregnancy by thoroughly evaluating the medical history of each couple and, if necessary, providing supportive treatments before insemination.
